Here are some things I prefer about Apple Mail that I wish Mailplane would
seriously consider incorporating in an update:

(1) Apple Mail is a lot easier on the eyes than Gmail via a web browser, or
Mailplane. Apple Mail just looks nicer. Is there anybody who doesn't think
so?There is generally better use of space. I feel more relaxed using it. I
can use it on my MacBook Pro 13" retina without running out of space. With
Mailplane it just doesn't fit as well so I end up using it on an external
monitor. That's fine at home, but when outside it's a nuisance. I wish
there was a CSS set which made it look closer to Apple Mail.

(2) Image attachments are quicker and work better in Apple Mail - though
Mailplane has greatly improved with this since I first started.

(3) You can have multiple signatures per account (useful in a multi-lingual
environment) in Apple Mail, but can't in Mailplane.

(4) You can move messages between accounts in Apple Mail, but can't in
Mailplane.

(5) Editing is much better in Apple Mail. For example, in Gmail/Mailplane
you can’t enter a tab character to line things up! That really drives me
crazy if I'm trying to sent a list of, say, dates and figures to somebody.
Isn't that sort of a basic functionality people wish they had?

(6) In Mail you can “send again” which is really useful. For example,
re-sending an invoice later in the month, with some extra notes. In
Mailplane there is no send again! Or redirect. Mail has both. Even if
Mailplane can't fix the other stuff because it is so tied to the browser,
I'm sure they could add a "send again" feature if they wanted to. The only
way of accomplishing a similar thing in Mailplane is with a multi-step
process which requires editing and also recopying the original recipients.

(7) I think conversations are easier to read in Mail than in Gmail. And
it’s easier to focus on just one message in a conversation. Have you ever
tried to delete one message from the middle of a thread in Mailplane?

So why am I complaining and why don't I just use Apple Mail?

Because Apple Mail isn't as reliable as Apple Mail with syncing with Gmail.
For example, yesterday I was waiting around for a mail I expected to arrive
before 3 pm. It didn't arrive. But I did get email at 2 pm and 3:45 pm. But
then I noticed that the mail was really there on the Gmail server - Apple
Mail had simply skipped over syncing it! And very often Apple Mail might be
late by HOURS in syncing with Gmail. So I was able to get to the mail via
Mailplane.

Also, I'm bilingual, and Gmail/Mailplane work better in Japanese. Sometimes
in Apple Mail Japanese subject headers or even the entire message get
corrupted. That doesn't happen in Mailplane.

So I'm back again to Mailplane. But it's not easy on the eyes and I never
feel relaxed using it.

I'm just hoping some of these basic things can be updated at some point. I
really like the Mailplane team, but I don't have any sense of what they
think is important about suggestions.

Thanks for hearing me vent a bit,

doug
