This has been happening for at least a year now.  I commented on the same
issue about a year ago.
It is a software issue (maybe related to the graphic switching in Macs) as
the flicker does not occur (for me) when viewing Gmail in browser.
Mailplane developers do not seem interested in the issue as I’ve seen
nothing done on it aside from asking users not to use ‘Themes’ (which, I’ve
found, does cut down on the flicker, but by no means solves it).
Also, they’ll ask you to reset the app… which doesn’t solve the issue.
