[mailplaneapp] huge .jpg image attachments

I'm noticing that .jpg image attachments I include when composing emails in 
MailPlane (as attachments, not inline) are huge, at least according to file 
size displayed in attachment box, over 10x larger than the compressed .jpg 
file size. I can attach exactly the same file using Gmail in my browser and 
they upload at exactly the file size. What gives here?...I don't want to 
continue switching over to my browser every time I attach a .jpg image.
