Just to expound on why I haven't tried logging in manually: within the Mailplane app, I don't really have a way to validate that the password prompt I'm seeing is actually coming from Google. I sort of trust Mailplane to enter my credentials into the right form and validate (via SSL cert) that Mailplane is sending my password to the actual Google, but to see something pop up and ask me to actually type it sets off my "somethings not right..." tripwire. Maybe Mailplane can provide some way to validate the login that it sees (and we see) is the actual Google?
