This project has strong support from campus executive leadership, faculty, staff and students, and is seen as one of UC Berkeley's highest administrative priorities. To ensure the success of this mission-critical project, UC Berkeley is building a project team whose members will include a blend of campus and external experts to help design, test and implement the new system. The objective of the SIS Replacement Project is to replace the university's constellation of aging, disparate and internally built and maintained student systems with a modern, nimble and effective vendor-supported system. The new system will include admissions, enrollment, registration, financial aid, student accounts, advising and a student portal. This 1 year contract position, with possibility of extension, will join the Student Information Systems Project as part of the Data Conversion, Data Warehouse and Reporting Team to 1) assist in converting UC Berkeley’s student data assets from legacy systems to PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and retrofit and integrate reporting and data warehouse content impacted by the conversion. Key responsibilities include task management; business requirements analysis; the creation of technical specifications; designing, developing, unit testing, deploying and supporting data conversion; coordinating the efforts of ETL and report developers, database administrators, and other technical staff in the course of providing conversion and reporting solutions; performing and documenting impact analysis on existing reporting and data warehouse content; developing and maintaining business and technical metadata; responding to functional questions and issues; and leading efforts to resolve operational data inconsistencies. Responsibilities Conversion from Legacy Applications to Campus Solutions Conduct sessions with subject matter experts to map legacy system data to Campus Solutions tables and fields. Profile legacy data to inform the conversion effort. Make conversion recommendations to functional teams. Translate functional conversion requirements to technical specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve conversion load warnings and errors. Identify data cleanup opportunities and coordinate with functional team members. Extract, transform and integrate legacy data using SQL and ETL tools (Informatica). Create test plans and coordinate converted data validation efforts. Reporting Work with functional users to define and prioritize reporting needs, consolidate similar reports and retire deprecated reports. Capture and document functional and technical report specifications. Work with Campus Solutions consultants to identify reporting needs satisfied by the ERP. Identify data source(s), reporting tool and delivery options for each report. Design and implement reports. Gather, specify and enforce data security requirements for each report. Create test plans and coordinate user acceptance testing. Data Warehouse Retrofit Inventory Data Warehouse objects and reports impacted by decommission of legacy systems. Evaluate if legacy data warehouse data models support Campus Solutions business processes and data structures. Work with data architect to modify campus data warehouse models, as needed. Propose strategies for data warehouse object retrofit or redesign. Modify impacted source-to-target mapping specifications. Interface with users, project managers, DBA’s, and other technical resources as necessary to meet project goals. Adhere to established programming and naming standards. Modify mappings that transform and load data into data warehouse structures utilizing ETL tools (Informatica). Unit test and deploy ETL processes to production. Develop and maintain accurate, clear technical metadata. Required Qualifications •Must have successfully completed a system data migration or conversion project. •Must have experience with solving data quality problems and have an understanding of mapping and cross reference lookups. •Must have in-depth understanding of ETL tools and processes. •Requires strong analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems. •Must be familiar with logical data design, data mapping and data conversion. •Requires strong knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards. •Must have knowledge relating to logical data design, data warehouse design and data integration. •Must be familiar with data model patterns in one or more common business or academic domains. •Must be fluent in SQL. •Must exercise critical thinking skills and attention to detail. •Must demonstrate good interviewing and listening skills. •Requires good written and oral communication skills. •Should be familiar with data quality and governance issues and requirements. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Work Experience: •Direct experience with ERP systems and implementation projects strongly desired. •Experience with higher education information systems strongly preferred. •Experience with PeopleSoft applications and technology desired.
