should find
/opt/csw/include/freetype2/freetype/config/ftheader.h
Perhaps what you're compiling isn't using freetype-config?
/opt/csw/bin/freetype-config --cflags
-I/opt/csw/include/freetype2 -I/opt/csw/include
I was going through my list of things to look into and ran across
this. I can't remember what the outcome was, did you get past this
error?

As I understand, we don't have many choices, so it's fine for me.
Important is, that a notify is sent to the maintainers list.
We have not build8st for this. AFAIK this has not been done yet.
