I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm thinking about
providing a 'split' ruby package. On solaris 8, I'd build with gcc4
as it is now. On 9 (and thus the package for 10), I'd use SOS12,
which can apparently build ruby cleanly. This would allow me to meet
my need to have ruby packages for sol8 still[1] while providing you a
cleaner target to build against for the officially supported
platforms.

Work for you?

Thanks
-Ben

[1] My fingers are crossed that we'll be getting a new platform to run
our RoR apps, so this personal need may disappear soon too.
