Usually there are no hard constraints on package versions. When there
are
needs for new versions just mail to buildfarm@ that you want the
packages
updated after release.
Is there some other mechanism that I'm not aware of to tell a build
to use a test package rather than a stable package, perhaps?

As you obviously want the new versions I am updating all farm machines
now
to current/.
