I have converted all metadata from the Python pickle format to JSON. The no-recoding optimization is also already in place, so from now on fetching the full package statistics should be much faster. I did a little measurements, for example the gcc4core metadata took something in the order of 3 minutes to download, now they take 40 seconds, and think the bottleneck was network bandwidth.
