The 2006 Army 2-on-2 United States Military Academy, March 25&26 43 Races were sailed 420s. We raced a 28 race rotation, then two 6 race sail offs for the top and bottom 4 teams. There were also two tie breakers and one race was re-raced for a breakdown. Winds varied (somewhat greatly) between 2 and 7 knots from the north on Saturday and between 4 and 12 knots from the North on Sunday. The "Box" course was used for all races which consists of a beat, beam reach, run, and beam reach to the finish. Four protests were filed and resolved with "Modified 3 minute Justice." The weather was typical for West Point in March - Cold with passing light showers. Competitors did a great job dealing with the unique current / tide and extremely variable wind conditions common to our location on the Hudson. One race on Saturday was abandoned and restarted due to extreme drifting following a prolonged lull in the wind. Many thanks to all who participated - the many smiles brightened our bleak weather!
