MASIA Central #2 was hosted by UMBC at the Baltimore County Sailing Center,
Essex Maryland April 14-15th 2007.
Saturday started with bright sun, light (4-5kts) north westerly breeze and
large oscillating shifts on the race course. As the day progressed the
breeze backed to the south and built to 9-11 kts. Windward leeward courses
we sailed in the morning and changed to Olympic courses with the new
afternoon breeze.
At total of sixteen (8A division and 8B division) races were sailed in JY15s
Redress was requested by three boats in race 4A and was not granted. One
protest was filed and withdrawn. There were zero breakdowns.
Sunday was marked by heavy rain and breaking waves on the beach launching
area. At the competitors weather briefing the wind was a sustained 25kts
and a dismal forecast Racing was postponed for one hour to monitor the
developing weather. Racing was abandoned at approximately 10:20 eastern
time as winds increased to sustained values over 30kts and were expected to
continue building.
Thanks is given to Mike Morgan and the Friends of the UMBC sailing team for
providing race committee and logistical support.
UMBC Sailing is particularly appreciative to Steve Maddox, Bill Fannon and
the rest of the Baltimore County Sailing Center for providing an excellent
venue for this event.
Penn State and Loyola were no shows.
