Colony Cup
William & Mary September 19-20, 2009 *See attached PDF for a well formatted version of this report* REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS: Saturday: Racing got off to a quick start in a light, but steady northerly breeze of 5-8 knots, with oscillating shifts to the east. By mid afternoon, the wind lightened a bit to 5 knots and clocked to the east, as the current on the James River increased and made things interesting. Eight races were sailed in each division before racing ended for the day. One protest was heard resulting in a disqualification for William & Mary Green. One Breakdown occurred and redress was awarded to the University of Virginia One disqualification was given to George Washington for receiving assistance after a capsize. Breakfast and Lunch were provided by Mama Peacock! Thanks Mom! While Cornell was a late edition and drove ten hours to sail with us (Thanks!), we only had nine of our ten boats on the water! Hampton was a no show. Sunday: As the temperature rose in the mid seventies, the winds provided us with a repeat of Saturday, lightening a bit as the temperature made its way into the eighties. Four races were sailed in each division before racing ended in the mid-afternoon. One protest was heard resulting in a disqualification for William and Mary Gold Mama Peacock again kept us fed! Thanks to Kate McClintock (CNU) and Eugene Williams (Salisbury) for hearing the protests and thanks to Lydia Cuker for doing the scoring.
