Despite a forecast of 15-18 kts the first half of the club champs were sailed
in
2- 7 kt north west. Shifts of 50 degrees were the norm during the middle part
of
the day and forced an early lunch. Racing continued shortly after and developed
to a steady 5kt NW. Coaches were able to watch from the balcony of the Toms
River Yacht Club and had a great time arm chair quaterbacking in the shifty
conditions, It did look easy from the top deck. Penn leads despite being
disqualafied from from race 4 due to tacking inside at the windward mark. Three
judges heard the protest during lunch in time for more racing. Fleets switch
boats in the morning and we will begin with race 10.
Day two of racing began with fantastic NW breeze at 7 kts and developed into a
full hiking breeze by the end of the day. Courses windward leewards twice
around
and all 18 races were competed by 12:30 with 2 protests being hailed but none
filed. Congratulation to U. Penn in a command performance.
