Yes, I just recently started using VST Host. So you're wondering how it works? Well, here's what I know. In order to use it with QWS, you need a software virtual midi cable. For this I have Midi Yoke, which allows you up to 8 ports, but you could also use LoopBe1. Anyway, once you have a virtual midi cable installed on your PC, then it's time to start configuring. First, you need to disable all of the input ports of your virtual midi cable in QWS. Otherwise, you'll get midi feedback, causing something to malfunction. So to do this, from the QWS main window, go to options, then ports. Now, to disable all of the midi in ports in your virtual midi cable, arrow down until you find an input port for your virtual midi cable, and tab over to the "Use this port" checkbox. Make sure this check box is uncheck for all of the virtual midi cable input ports. Leave the output ports, though. Those are what you play through. Now, go to VST host and go to devices, then midi. This is where you tell VST Host what input ports it can receive data from. Don't worry about the output and through tabs. Those are unimportant. Just focus on the input tab. Select the virtual midi ports you want to use by pressing Shift down-arrow. Note that this is for all of your vsts. You'll set up their individual ports later. So, hit enter to exit the dialogue, then go to devices, then wave. This is where you set up the audio parameters. First, make sure the input is set to no wave. This will reduce latency. Then, hit tab and choose your output. E.G., MME, or Asio, depending on which one you use. Now, tab until you find buffer size. The larger the size, the more latency you'll have. Therefore, it is recommended that you set it to a very low buffer size. If you get clicks and pops when you play your vsts, you can always increase it as needed. So press enter to exit. Now, let's load a VST! First, set the plugin path. This option can be found in the file menu, and this tells VST Host where to look for your plugins. Once you've done this, go to file, then plugin, and find one of your plugins to load and press enter. Then, once it's done loading, go to plugin menu, then window, then midi settings. Here you can assign this VST to a specific port out of the list you made available when you selected them earlier in the midi dialogue. Make sure you set it to one of the midi yoke or LoopBe1 ports, then press enter. Now go back to QWS, Create a new track, and set the port to the corresponding port you chose in VST Host for your VST. For example, if you chose in from midi yoke 1 in VST Host, You would set the port to Out to midi yoke 1 in QWS. Now, your VST should play! If you have any more questions, the QWS article on VSTs may help. website. Here at http://www.andrelouis.com/qws/art/art007.htm Note that while the article tells you to leave the input alone in the wave dialogue, I've found that in order to reduce latency, you have to set the input to no wave. I hope this gets your VSTs running properly for you, and if not, we'll be here to help. Seth

I've used it only a bit, and I used a virtual MIDI cable to access things in it. Basically it allows you to configure a setup of VSts on different channels to play sounds. > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf > Of DePriest Ragsdale > Sent: Thursday, September 10, 2015 9:18 PM > To: QWS list > Subject: Re: QWS List Mpk49 > > Ok, can you explain the basic concept behind VST host?
