Here's my official stance on the whole PASTHRU issue: Don't fuck with it. Not like this, rushing it into 5.8.1. Sure, Tk's happy but its not the only module out there. I haven't had a chance to evaluate other large, complex modules and what effect it will have on them. I haven't had a chance to look through CPAN to see how people are using PASTHRU_* if at all.
Leave it be. If it gets rushed into 5.8.1, something's going to break
because of it. Its been broken for a long time, it can wait. After 5.8.1
we'll take a stab at fixing it, Steve's problem is not urgent enough to
risk breaking other modules. You can always install a new version of MM later, but you can't patch everyone's copy of 5.8.1 if you introduce
a new bug.
Conservative? Hell yes, but its MakeMaker and its a maintenance release.
I'm inclined to agree with this... but then I'm pretty risk averse ;-)
