Hi,

I hope you can help us with the following problem.

We build several tools for use in our development environment, among
others perl-5.8.6 and Tk-804.027. There's no problem with the build
itself, nor with using the tools.

However, when integrating those tools in our environment, a problem arose
due to the structure of the pathnames that we have to use. Those
pathnames all contain a directory name that has the structure
"subsystem=version", such as for example:
/home/dcr/ccm_wa/SNMP_SOAP=dcr_SNMP_SOAP/SNMP_SOAP/tools/perl-5.8.6.  The
'=' character in these pathnames provokes problems in some of the
Makefiles that are generated during the perl and Tk builds.

As these Makefiles are generated using MakeMaker, we have been searching
for a way to instruct the latter tool that the character '=' needs to be
escaped in our environment. Unfortunately, we still haven't found a way
to do that.

Is there a way to add a customization to perl/MakeMaker so that '='
characters in pathnames are written as '\=' in the generated Makefiles?

Thanks in advance for any hints.
