I am having a problem finding anything "official" regarding PDL's build failure when using perl-5.8.8. The issue is apparently worked around here: http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=17224. However, this bug doesn't appear to have been assigned and the latest perl development tarball does not change MM_Unix.pm WRT to this problem.
