=/INTRODUCTION:/= As you know the goal of this list is "A group to look forward in the lines of interdisciplinary thinking, actions & analysis. This group is specifically for analysing black white & grey of kerala society." =/PRE Mallu Mafia/= The group is started with a name Grey Youth Kerala since it is about the grey shades of Kerala society. It is named as Greyyouth since it is taken the spirit from popular greenyouth list. But accepting the spirit of a new group with same name "grey youth" (by our friend Geedha)in association our reanalyse on the term "grey youth" we decided to change the name of the group. The arguments agaist grey youth are following 1. Youth & Grey heads: when our youth became grey heads ? , Grey have a connotation that means aged (pointed by Deepa). 2. 'Grey' as in 'silver'. (Ahmed rafeek remember a website named silverdaddies, which is for young guys who love elder men. ) 3. The new Term Mallu mafia (suggested by Ahmed rafeek is more suitable for the list more than Greyyouth) Praveen & Ahmed Rafeek suggested a lot of new names . Mallu mafia is the name most of the contributors are agreed (Ahmed Rafeek, arayakrishnan, me) Old List archive is available at http://groups.google.com/group/greyyouth =/MALLU MAFIA/= Mails in support Of mallu mafia is listed below 1. Ahamed Rafeek "What about some thing like 'mallumafia'. Or 'green mafia'. These terms are pervasive, because we are creating a history of reclaiming those bad words. " 2. Deepa Paul (me) "I feel mallumafia is fine. especially in the current scenario of Black & white discourses ( now it is called as VS, PINARAY in kerala). mafia is a term Popularly used for Criminalising people in the grounds of good/bad binaries The word mafia, which is always used to repesent grey markets& life in urban suburbs( Remember the kochi mafia films). The word also become popular recently through Pinarayi mafia (just. sukumarans comment), saamskarika mafia, (recent green mafia, sugatakumari mafia in greenyouth list). The Range of this word from Mafia sasi ( stunt master in film mafia) to pinarayi mafia makes it capable for addressing the purpose of this group, ie black , white & grey of kerala society, in the lines of interdisciplinary thinking, actions and analysis." 3. Aryakrishnan The name is really good. I saw a similar blog post called 'mundu mafia' . ( http://blogalcatraz.blogspot.com/2005/05/mundu-mafia.html< http://blogalcatraz.blogspot.com/2005/05/mundu-mafia.html>). Why dont we start our discussions, counting the many faces and forms of mafia in Kerala? Land mafia, sex mafia, green mafia, mundu mafia to list a few. There will be many more. It will be valuable if others can come up with more mafias which they have found or experienced in their real as well virtual lives. More than a metaphor, 'Mallu mafia' is very desirable to discuss the green, greay, black and white shades of Kerala's everyday lives. Infact the name 'rainbows' as in 'rocks'. Old List will be automatically closedown without deleting the group.
