Australia's richest man Kerry Packer blew STG20 million ($A60.08
million) in casinos after being stranded in Las Vegas by the World
Trade Centre terrorist attacks, it was reported today.

The legendary punter was forced to extend his stay in the US gambling
capital for a week after flights were grounded across the States
following the September 11 attack.

He passed the time by playing baccarat at STG100,000 ($A300,390) a
hand, British tabloid the Daily Star said, quoting local newspaper the
Las Vegas Review Journal.

Packer, 63, played hands of blackjack and munched hotdogs between
bouts at the baccarat table at the swish Bellagio Casino.

But the usually generous billionaire, who once tipped a Vegas casino
cigarette girl STG50,000 ($A150,195.25), enraged dealers by refusing
to tip them in protest at leaks over his previous losses at the gaming
tables.

"As a show of his wrath, he refused to tip the dealers in his two
weeks of play. But the leak could have come from a number of
departments," a casino insider was quoted as saying.

The media mogul also reportedly demanded that people dealing with him
sign a secrecy agreement.

Packer, who has survived seven heart attacks, is legendary for his
gambling sprees around the globe.

He once lost STG11 million ($A33.04 million) playing blackjack at the
exclusive London casino Crockford's, wiping out an earlier STG13
million ($A39.05 million) win at the MGM Grand Casino in Vegas.
