Subject: RE: By Leaps and Bounds, Monkeys Overrun Japan

I actually took a tour to Nikko a couple years ago. All along the road (a
mountain road full of switchbacks so sharp that the bus sometimes had to
stop and do a three-point turn around them) were signs warning about
monkeys, but we never saw one. We saw a building which had carved into it
the original "see no evil, hear no evil..." monkeys so folks on the bus had
pretty much made up our minds that the monkeys were a legend. Then on the
way down, they suddenly they suddenly appeared all over the sides of the
road. Indeed, one came sauntering up to the bus (which was blocking the
road doing one of hairpin turns at the time) but then quickly ran back and
jumped into the open window of the car behind (which was blocked by the bus'
maneuvers). About then, the bus started moving so we never saw what
happened, but the car continued on, so they must have either gotten the
monkey out or decided to give it a ride :-)
