Bagaimana kalau Bung Soni menjadi koordinator untuk pencatatan rekor ikan
air tawar, untuk lebih menggairahkan mancing air tawar dan perburuan ikan
freshwater. Kayaknya kalau nggak dimulai nggak mulai-mulai ya, soalnya kalau
di LN rekor air tawar turut menggairahkan mancing. Seperti artikel di bawah
ini.

February 2000

If the 2000/2001 season is any thing like the 1999/2000 season at El Salto,
it has to be classified as the best bass lake in Mexico and probably the
entire world.

    Here's why:
During the 1999/2000 season anglers on Lake El Salto averaged catching
80 bass a day. While having a ball catching all those bass, 90% caught at
least a 6 lb bass, 75% caught a bass weighing 7 lb, 70% a 8 lb, and 60% a 9
lb and that is not the end of the results. Over 50% of the anglers who
fished Lake El Salto during the 1999/2000 season caught a double-digit bass.
38% of the anglers caught bass over 12 lb with the largest a 15.8 lb caught
by Mac Kehoe.
Paul and Jade Lemon the father/son team from Tulsa, Oklahoma did it
again this past season. In four days of fishing they caught 700 bass with
one 13.6, one 11.2, two 10.6s, four between 9 and 10 pounds and fifteen
between 8 and 9 pounds.
A group of twenty-four sponsored by Shimano visited El Salto for three
days the first week in April 2000. The group caught and released over 4000
bass. One member of the group, Bob Barnhardt, set two lake records during
that trip both of which were broken later in the season. In one day Bob had
five fish that totaled 51 lbs and ten fish that weighed 92 lbs respectfully.
Bob's record was broken several times later in the season. The final record,
at least until the 2000/2001 season begins October 1, 2000, was set by Les
Melton of Charleston, West Virginia. On May 26, 2000 Les caught five fish
that weighed 57.7 lbs and ten that weighed 104.4 lbs. Les estimated that
during his five days of fishing he caught between 400 and 500 bass.

A group of twenty-two anglers from Lake Pointe Medical Center went to El
Salto in mid May. They estimated their total catch was between 4000 and 4500
bass with twenty over 10 lbs. Ken Teel caught the largest a 13.8 pounder.
Nineteen of the group caught the largest bass they had ever caught in their
life. One of the three who did not was Dr. Tim Bray who had caught a 14.4
pounder the year before.
The list of incredible success stories documented during the 1999/2000
fishing season goes on and on. In fact there are just too many to list. You
can see more fishing reports, including some of my own, by clicking on the
fishing reports icon on your left.
There have been many great bass lakes in the past, but none to equal
Lake El Salto. When has there ever been a lake that an angler could catch
between seventy-five and one hundred bass a day and at the same time have
more than a 50% chance at a double-digit bass!
Bass Master Magazine Senior Writer Tim Tucker certainly thought so. He
called El Salto "the absolute best trophy lake in the world."

Tim Bray and his 14.4 pounder
March 1999
While the 1999/2000 season was the best season El Salto has ever had,
I'm optimistic that Lake El Salto will produce this type of fishing for many
seasons to come. A lot of anglers think the best time to go to Mexico bass
fishing is in the fall or early winter, I do necessarily agree with that.
During the 1999/2000 season El Salto consistently produced both numbers as
well as trophy class bass from when it opened in October 1999 until it
closed at the end of May 2000. Just check out the fishing reports and see
all those great reports for April and May 2000. El Salto is right at pool
level going into the 2000/2001 season. That means conditions should be equal
to, if not better than those experienced last season, which should mean
several records will be broken.
While El Salto's trophy bass fishing is the primary item on the menu, I can
custom design a November-February trip to include some of the fastest
white-wing and duck hunting to be found anywhere on the continent. Since the
irrigation system for Lake El Salto has been developed thousands of acres of
brush country have become fertile farm land. This in turn has brought
thousands of white-wing and morning doves to the milo fields surrounding
Lake El Salto. Ducks by the thousands such as pintails, blue wing teal,
green wing teal, cinnamon teal, redheads and pichiguila are also using Lake
El Salto and its surrounding fields as a winter heaven.
It's called the "Cast and Blast" package and it's a fitting title,
indeed. Imagine it. Go out and melt a shotgun barrel on doves or ducks and
then go casting for a ten pound bass all in the same day. It just doesn't
get any better than that.

Now for a few details on the lake:
El Salto is a scenic impoundment located deep in the heart of the rugged
Sierra Madre Occidental Mountain range. It is about 1 ½ hours, on all paved
roads, drive north of Mazatlan. It was built on the Rio Elota River and
spans approximately 27,000 acres. The lower end of the lake harbors steep,
rocky banks with very sharp drops. Maximum depth is around 150 feet and
water clarity is excellent.
During the fall, spring and winter most anglers choose to bang the
banks, points and other shallow areas with top waters, spinner baits, crank
baits and Texas-rig soft plastics. El Salto is full of excellent open-water
structure that's prime for early summer fishing with deep running crank
baits and 10 inch power worms.
There is plenty of cover to throw at, too -- lots of lay downs, standing
timber, fields of water hyacinth and a prickly aquatic grass that resembles
hydrilla.
While El Salto looks promising from one end to the other, the upper half
is usually where the best fishing occurs. That's where anglers will find
literally hundreds of brush-cluttered points, ridges and humps, not to
mention the flooded ruins of two towns, a pair of ancient cemeteries and
numerous shallow flats.

Anglers Inn is the only facility on Lake El Salto.
The beautiful lakefront lodge is owned and operated by twenty-five year
veteran outfitter, Billy Chapman, Jr. Amenities include air conditioned
rooms, dining area and a rustic cabana where anglers and hunters can relax
with a cool drink and swap stories about their day on El Salto before
treating themselves to a five-star meal.
The Anglers Inn Staff takes great pride in their service. You'll be
treated like a king from the minute your under their care until they say
adios.
In addition to the quality lodging and service, Anglers Inn has a fleet
of Super 17 V Bottom Tracker boats with live wells equipped with 40
horsepower Mariner outboards and Minn Kota trolling motors. Clients are
paired with Mexican fishing guides, all of which understand the importance
of pleasing the client's fishing desires.
The typical fishing or hunting day begins with breakfast about an hour
before daylight. You are on the lake before dawn to return for lunch about
11:30am. You then have lunch and a siesta until about 2:00pm and then back
to fishing or hunting until dark. The lodge's close proximity to the lake
also makes night fishing a viable option. Since the lodge is so close to the
lake and this is your fishing trip you can fish any hours that you want to.
So give me a call or send me an email and let me arrange the trip of a
lifetime to Lake El Salto for you. Terry
