To my knowledge the neid has never been filmed, but there was
an
Italian "bedsheet & sandal opus" called "The Trojan Horse" (Italian
title possibly "La Guerra di Troia").This starred Steve Reeves, the
American bodybuilder, as neas I think.

Here is what Leonard Maltin had to say about it:
"Trojan Horse,The (1962-Italian) C[olour]- 105m[inutes]. **1/2[out of
****] D[irector]:Giorgio Ferroni. Steve Reeves,John Drew Barrymore,Hedy
Vessel,Juliet Mayniel. Above-average production values and Barrymore's
presence in role of Ulysses inflates rating of otherwise stale version
of Homer's epic.[sic] Techniscope."[Source:Maltin,Leonard(1997) "Leonard
Maltin's 1998 Movie & Video Guide" New York:Signet p.1406]

                                                        I haven't seen the film
but imagine that it is loosely based on
Homer, with the sack of Troy based ultimately on Virgil's account in
Book II of the neid.

                                                        There was also, I
believe, an early silent film based on Dante's
"Inferno" which naturally involved Virgil as a character.
