On the ever-fascinating topic of Aeneas and Dido, may I draw the
Mantovani's attention to two articles in the latest _Classical
Quarterly_, NS 49 (1999)?

Pp. 184-202. Roy K. Gibson, 'Aeneas as _hospes_ in Vergil, _Aeneid_ 1
and 4'.

Considers the strength of Dido's claim on Aeneas arising out of their
relation of _hospitium_.

Pp. 203-11. Sergio Casali, '_Facta Impia (Virgil, _Aeneid_ 4.596-9)'.

Argues that the _facta impia_ that ought to have affected Dido when she
offered Aeneas the kingship were his treasonable activities upon the
fall of Troy.
