I was just reading an old _Hermes_ article from 1936 that contained an
oblique reference to a scholarly work that, it seems, should have been
immediately recognizable to any reader, without need for full publication
information.  The reference merely said "Schmid-Staehlin."* I suppose this
may be as well-known as Pauly-Wissowa to some classicists, but I must
confess myself stumped.  I couldn't find anything matching
"Schmid-Staehlin" in my university library catalogue.  If anyone can tell
me what "Schmid-Staehlin" is, I shall be most grateful.
