The Mapbender zip archive contains compressed JavaScript files for better performance. If you need to take a look at the source code, this is painful. If you haven't changed the source code, you can always get the code from the tag in the SVN at

https://svn.osgeo.org/mapbender/tags/<version>

If you have changed your JavaScript code, you can always beautify your code by using this nice tool

http://jsbeautifier.org

This formats the compressed code so that it is human readable again.
