In the providers.xml file within the fdo directory, there should be an entry for ODBC. You need to make sure any shared libraries it references are present. I don't have odbc setup on linux, but this is usually a good troubleshooting step when a provider fails to execute.
Thanks Zak! Indeed the libFdoODBC.so library is missing. Looks like I'll be rebuilding FDO.
