Hi Brian, What is your use case for the spatial database? Do you need to access it using more than just MapGuide?
My understanding is that the MsSqlSpatial provider is functional but not fully featured. Perhaps Haris will be able to pop in and comment on this. Can you afford to wait until SQL Server 2008 comes out with native spatial support? PostGIS / PostgreSQL is an extremely capable and robust spatial database system. Its capabilities are similar to SQL Server 2005, apart from some of the higher-end enterprise features. The PostGIS provider is still in early days, but is settling down nicely. There are apparently .Net drivers available for PostgreSQL; I don't know if this means that it integrates into Visual Studio the same way that MS SQL does though.
