Rather than copying the entire repository, you can also make a package of any folder within the repository. Go into Site Administrator and take a look at the Manage Packages section. Because we have the capability to export from the folder level, I organize all of my projects with a top-level folder which makes it easy to export from development and import into production on a project by project basis.
