I wouldn't count on it being easy... unless you're happy just linking to the entire map. That part would actually be super-easy...
It's been a while since I've played with it, so I'm a bit fuzzy, but while the existing KML support in MapGuide is decent (it supports Regions, etc) it also has some limitations. If I was going to do this myself, I would want to either re-implement the KML support as a PHP widget (lots of time, but not too difficult technically), or have the MapGuide core KML support enhanced. My current wish list looks something like: - Allow KML to function similar to WMS, with a generic server-side userid/password, and access restrictions set on the map and layer levels. - Explicitly support calling at the layer level rather than having to render the entire map (which cascades layer-based requests). - Support output of point symbols. - Create a legend image for the screen overlay - Allow output of MultiGeometry with Stylemap elements, for mouseover effects and info-points. - Allow passing an initial view extent. I think that this may currently be possible, but haven't investigated. Currently, GeoServer has much better support for KML than MapGuide, along with awesome documentation. Could have something to do with James Macgill working for Google :) http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/Google+Earth I'd love to see us follow their lead, but I don't see the required level of community development on the MapGuide core, collective will, funding, etc yet.
