I am seeing issues on both linux and windows. Windows is worse because the daemon crashes in a state which can't be killed except using zerowave. Running the server interactively ( is mgserver run or /mgserver.sh ) is better when playing nurse made as you can easily see when the server has exited.
I am mostly using the SHP provider on linux and SDF on windows. Mapguide doesn't seem to log any crash error information. I think it would help if there where server start & stop messages in both the error and access log files. Authoring via Studio seems to provoke the crashes the most.
