It might be better to allow a list of mapid/mapresource pairs and then decode that. This would allow for more flexibility; not all layouts will have a single map, or even a single overview map.
Probably better to discuss this in fusion-users regardless. This mapresource stuff is pretty MapGuide-specific I think; I wonder if there's a way to do this that could be used for MapServer as well.
