I guess I did not install the gdal1.4.dll, I did install the files as
outlined in the document you pointed me to. Sorry about the confusion.
I do see errors in the log indicating a coordinate system difference
between the sid file and the map. I am not sure how to do a coordinate
system override. Is there some documentation somewhere? I am using
Mapguide Studio 2007 to build my map and can not find any tools for
this. I do see some references to editing the config.xml file but any
guidance to documentation on how to modify this file would be much
appreciated.

You should not install gdal1.4.dll. You should only need to install the
three MrSID plugin files.
However... If you're seeing the files opening, it may be that you're
running into the problem with the coordinate system being set to a value
other than that of the map, and may need to set a CS override in the
data connection for the raster data.
Are there any exceptions in your mapguide error log?
Another possibility is that you're not in the right place when
previewing the data. I think that the raster provider in 1.2 may have
done a better job of reporting the extents of MrSID files. This is just
a gut feeling though; I haven't taken the time to test/document the
problem.

correct. These sid files worked in MG 1.2.
I see a lot of discussion regarding sid files and connection handles,
memory issues etc. but I do not think I am even getting that far!
