The mapguide service will fail to start if your system is slow at starting 
other services. Often times defragging your c drive will speed your boot 
process and allow these services to start as expected on a reboot.

In this case you problem may be something else.

Can you try running the mgserver2009.exe from a command line with the /run 
parameter and see if you get an error.

hi,
i have a problem with my mapguide service. it's down and when i'm trying to
start the service i get the following error "error 1053:the service did not
respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
