Recently the forum helped me connect to an Excel 2003 file on a 2003 r2 server (32 bit). We have now moved to a 2008 R2 server 64 bit with MGE 2011 64 bit and the problem resurfaced.
To get a successful connection test in Studio 2011, I installed the drivers from this file, accessdatabaseengine_x64.exe, on the server on the advice of "http://www.quattrosource.com/2010/03/microsoft-jet-drivers-for-64bit-windows-server-2008/". This did not require the use of a server DSN connection and worked so long as the "Type of database:" was set to "Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *.xlsb)". There is still a problem with some of the data in the spreadsheet as a preview of the data yeilds "An exception occurred in FDO component. RDBMS: Incompatible column type", but a list of points alone works just fine. I am going to add each column back in one at a time to see which one(s) are causing a failure. However any insight into the cause of this FDO exception would be greatly appreciated. While my trial and error may "fix" the problem, I doubt I'll understand the root cause and would greatly appreciate some educating or a link that will help me understand.
