MySQL doesn't support proper SelectWithin either. It currently only supports 
Envelope operations as far as I know. Unless this has changed in a recent 
release.

We solved this by migrating the data to a spatial database. If a commercial
database like oracle or sql server is no option, you could try the free
postgis or mysql. The ODBC provider in MGOS/MGE is just not good.
