In the sample there are two OL layers, one for MG image and another OL
layer for vector display and editing.
I believe this vector layer could be used as "standalone" and combined
with basic layout.
I even think that Simon did exactly that in our production
implementation (he also developed those OL layers).
He will jump into this discussion and help with answers
