Ajax viewer is still being maintained, but the focus
for new cool stuff would most likely be in fusion which is
being actively developed.

the approach used for the AJAX viewer makes
any customisation much harder to maintain etc
while fusion is well suited for such purposes.

Of course, unless you or someone else would like to
contribute new features
