I don't believe you can unless you track all changes made and modify the XML
files in the repository. I'm talking the map xml with which layers are
visible, as well as the filter tags within the layer xml.  

If you changed and copied all of those to the session repository and then
created a new session, you could point the new map window there. 

But it would be daunting task to track all changes made, unless it is just
layer visibility which wouldn't be too bad.
