This is how I build MapGuide on Linux (CentOS and Ubuntu):

I checkout this directory

http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/browser/branches/2.5/Installer/scripts

And run the build.sh file to build the whole thing (after editing the
various settings in that file)

You also need to make sure that all the system libraries needed to build
MapGuide are already installed before you proceed.

A rough list of pre-build dependencies can be found here (maybe a bit out of
