I've been able to create a feature source using the OSGeo.WFS provider and create a vector layer from the feature source (saved both of these). I have used a theming method based on attributes of the WFS feature. Previewing the feature source (data connection) doesn't display much of anything (only thing displayed is Schema:XXXXXX vs. all of the feature classes) and previewing the layer (both in the local map viewer or not) displays the layer in the legend but fails to properly display the layer in the map. However, if I add the layer to a map definition, the layer displays properly. The one problem that I have encountered is being able to select features of the WFS layers (labeling, theming, and tooltips work properly...I just can't select any of the features; previously reported here: http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/WFS-Primary-Key-problem-tp5080454p5082495.html).
What are the connection parameter properties that you are using? Perhaps you can post the WFS server that you are trying to connect to (if public).
