What I tend to do is: 1. Create an XML version of the layer I am going to be changing (i.e Parcels.layerdefinition.xml) 2. Dynamically load the xml layer with the api - i.e. PHP 3. Tweak the xml by changing the Filter (for a particular object) and find the colour property in the URL 4. Add the Layer to the map
