I was researching a question for someone, and came across the following
site:
http://www.census.gov/history/www/programs/geography/statistical_atlases.html
. In addition to the brief history, they link to three 19th century
copies of the atlas, via the Library of Congress (American Memory) site.
This includes the atlases from 1870, 1880 and 1890. This might be of
interest to some on the list.
