Dear Maphisters, I am writing an article on the geographical term/misnomer "Middle East." What I am seeking is alternate words to describe this particular type of term. Can one call it a "geographical or directional ----nym of some sort? If so what? East Asia, South Asia, etc. Specifically what kind of geographical terms are these? Toponym doesn't sound right but I am convinced that there is another word out there that describes this kind of geographical term and that it is simply not coming to mind. My dictionary and thesaurus are not proving of much help in this instance. Any and all suggestions on this front would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance, Karen Pinto
