All, The next NY Map Society meeting will the first meeting of our 2010/11 season. Saturday, September 11th, 2010 at 2:30 pm "The Mapping of Africa" Our guest speaker, map dealer Richard Betz, will demonstrate the changing nature of the depiction of Africa from earliest times to 1700. Special attention will be given to African map-making and non-European exploration of the continent by the peoples of the Indian Ocean. This will be followed by a presentation using maps of the European expansion into Africa beginning in 1415, plus a summary of the major cartographic models developed in the course of researching and analyzing all maps produced up to 1700.
