I would appreciate assistance with the following inquiry, which I forward verbatim: "I'm currently working on a catalogue the incunabula at Smith, one of which is the 1485 Isolario of Bartolommeo dalli Sonetti, with about 50 maps. The maps are all of islands in the Mediterranean, with extensive manuscript labels and notes, and some nice coloring. "Each map has a pencilled number in the corner, in a modern hand, which I suspect must be a reference to its listing in some catalogue or other. They fall into two groups of sequential numbers (although the numbers are scattered among the maps - e.g. 2123, 1800a, 2124, etc.): 2111-2135, 1800a-1819a, and a few odd numbers: 1236, 1642, and 1643. "Can you think offhand of any reference work on early maps that might be relevant?"
