Thank you to everyone who sent me John Hessler's email address...I now have
a copy of the paper and it seems it will appear in the journal 'Fractals'
early next year. I did not realize that the fractal theory of Brownian
motion could be applied to some of the navigational directions found in
early Portolans so effectively....
