Dear all,
though close to the opening, I send you the news about the inauguration of an 
exhibition titled

L'Italia prima dell'Italia
Carte geografiche e topografiche dell’Italia dal 1478 al 1861
(Italy before Italy - Geographical and Large Scale Maps of Italy since 1478 to 
1861). 

The exhibition, organized by the Associazione "Roberto Almagià" (Italian map 
collectors Society), is one of the events of the150th year from the Unity of 
Italy, on the behalf of the National Commission for the Celebration, with the 
support of the Società Geografica Italiana (Italian Geographical Society) 
Centro Studi per gli Studi Storico-Geografici (Center for the 
Historic-Geographical Studies) and the University IUAV of Venice.
The exhibition will be held in Milano, hosted by the Centro Studi Manzoniani in 
the House of Manzoni (Via Morone, 1, close to La Scala) since 7th April (date 
of the inauguration) to 7th May 2011.
In the exhibition (the first on Maps of Italy ever made) will be on display 59 
maps (some multi sheets and wall maps) from the Roman Edition (1478) of 
Ptolemy's Geography to large scale mapping of Italian States in the XIX century.
A catalog, edited by the President of the Italian Map Collectors Association, 
has been published (158 pages printed in color).
Among rare and unique items the Rosselli 1492 map of italy (CAMPBELL 1987, pp. 
135, 136) a so far unrecorded map of Italy by De Jode dated 1570 (only known 
the 1578 ed.), the Map of Italy by Greuter in 12 sheets (Bologna edition of 
1676, BELLUCCI-VALERIO 2007, pp. 78, 79), a so far unknown four sheets map by 
Petrini (Naples 1702). All from Associated Collectors.
