Venue for ICHC 2015

The Board of Directors of Imago Mundi Ltd is pleased to announce the venue for
the 26th International Conference on the History of Cartography (ICHC 2015).

This will be hosted by the City of Antwerp and the University of Antwerp.

The following is taken from the press release put out by the Board of Mayor and
Aldermen on Friday 20 May:

As a host, Antwerp has a lot of assets:

As the cradle of atlas cartography, the city played an important part in the
history of cartography. Abraham Ortelius published the first modern atlas in
1570. From 1579 onwards it was printed by the Officina Plantiniana.

The Museum Plantin-Moretus, the FelixArchief / Antwerp Municipal Archives, the
Erfgoedbibliotheek Hendrik Conscience and the MAS / Museum aan de Stroom all
contain unique cartographic highlights.

Antwerp can rightly boast about these institutions. The Museum Plantin-Moretus
has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2001, the FelixArchief
preserves the archives of the Chamber of Insolvent Estates, which have been
included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register since 2009, and the
brand-new MAS | Museum aan de Stroom opened its doors on the 17th of May 2011.

The exhibitions organized for the conference will offer the opportunity to
present the rich cartographic collections to a wider audience.
