One of my favorite type designers, Jeremy Dooley, has created a typeface, "Carta Marina", based on the copy of the Olaus Magnus map at the James Ford Bell Library, University of Minnesota.

In addition to 2 titling fonts (regular and bold weights), Dooley created 3 "dingbat" fonts featuring dragons, animals, and people shown on the 1539 map, plus another picture font with crest images.

To learn more about (and/or purchase) Carta Marina fonts, see
