Chuckle.
The sample being submitted to Apple is going in under the name
Map Art and Exploration. I registered that name at Wordpress also for the blog.
I'm open to suggestions though.
I was going to go with Cartographic Art and Exploration, but upon consulting a
few others,
they thought the average Joe might be more comfortable with the word, "Maps,"
vs.
the word "Cartographic."
I can only imagine what a double P on Mapp would do.
*face palm*
Oh, and the pictures do not have to be cartographers and others out in the
field.
They can be photos of office workers, ship captains, lead explorers,
assistants, etc.etc.
Anyone involved in the process that we often overlook.

All,
I am launching an app on historic maps in hopes of getting a broader audience
interested in the history of cartography. The app should be finished in a week
or so, then it will take Apple another few weeks to approve. I do not see why
Apple will reject this project.
It will be a free app for iOs based devices. Ie. iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch
devices.
The app will only be photos and images, with an accompanying blog available for
further information. The blog will be available for everyone to view.
In order to avoid copyright issues, I am pulling historic copyright free images
of maps.
I would also like to add copyright free photos of early cartographers and those
involved with mapping our world from the1870's to approximately 1935. As an
example, please see the link below to NOAA's photo library and their "Getting
There" collection.

I have found a few images in the LOC's Print's and Photographs collection, but
I defiantly could use the collective wisdom of maphist for more help and
suggestions.
I do not have images of British or other European cartographers, so a
collection of those would be great, along with any other world surveyors and
mappers. I think an article on those men and women would be fantastic for the
blog.
Links, images, and photos can be sent in any language.
This is an educational, free project.
All I can do is to credit you for your help on the upcoming blog.
With Chet Van Duzer's help, I am translating the names of antiquarian maps from
Latin and other languages into English for the everyman to enjoy also. Those
translations will appear on both the app and blog. I might need help with
accurately translating Dutch, French and a few other languages.
